PODCAST EPISODE
In this episode number 34 of *Nomadic Radio*, we explore migratory experiences through social practices, activism, and community. We are joined by Elisabeth Andrade, president of the self-managed community Los Arenales, located in the Atacama Desert in Antofagasta, Chile. We discuss the past, present, and future of Los Arenales, one of the most organized communities in the struggle for dignified housing in Chile. This episode, presented as a sound installation, was part of the *Somewhere Inbetween* exhibition in October 2024 at the Humboldt University art gallery in Berlin. The exhibition seeks to recognize autonomous and solidarity-driven processes such as Los Arenales in South America and communities in Europe like The Dzjangal in France and Tiburtina in Italy, which have created spaces of conviviality within the urban space, challenging border regimes and fighting for the right to a dignified life in modern cities.
Elisabeth, who was awarded the Chilean National Human Rights Prize in 2022 for her advocacy of housing rights and support for migrants in Chile, shares her experience and reflections on this recognition and community organizing, alongside artist and anthropologist Melanie Garland, curator of the Somewhere Inbetween exhibition.
This interview is conducted in Spanish and will soon be available with English subtitles.
